Support and Advocacy

Support

Families who are determined to see their loved ones thrive, seek intervention. This takes team commitment. All the hard work of tutoring is just part of what’s needed for success. Individuals with learning differences need support throughout intervention and possibly throughout life. Literacy Matters provides advice and guidance for how to best help students and families at home, work and school. Establishing classroom accommodations is another critical area of support offered, enabling students to access learning and be successful.

Advocacy

Advocacy is an important part of what we do for our students and families. Unfortunately, many educators are not aware of the indicators for learning differences. They might simply dismiss parent concerns or say the student just needs to mature. This is very frustrating for families who see their children falling behind and feel the problem isn’t recognized.

Literacy Matters helps advocate for students by preparing families for IEP, Section 504, and other school meetings. Additionally, we often attend meetings with parents as well, at their request. On-going communication and collaborative support with teachers are also key services that we provide.
